Ask Me How I Got Here is a verse novel which excites me because it leaves the reader a space to fill in the gaps of the unsaid. The story revolves around a character’s journey before and after she committed abortion, and how she dealt with it while still trying to live by and question her religion.

What I love about this book is Addie’s personality development, I’ve read from a book that to have true faith you have to be able to question things and happenings around you to measure how much faith you have, so I think how Addie raised questions against what she learned from her religion and school was totally understandable. I also enjoyed her relationship with her parents, her best friend, and her boyfriend. I love the poems in the book, and how when I started reading I couldn’t stop myself from finishing it anymore.

What I didn’t like about the book is the ending, and what happened to her and Juliana. I think that her exploration with her sexuality was okay but I strongly believed that considering she’s young, she’s also going through something that must have influenced her perception. I think Addie needs professional help. Another thing is Juliana’s side, I didn’t really understand if she’s really Okay now or she is still unstable. It wasn’t really clear.

If you enjoyed I Heart You, You Haunt Me by Lisa Schroeder you would totally love this book! But to be honest, Lisa Schroeder’s character made more connection to me than Christine Heppermann’s.
