According to Japanese legend, folding a thousand paper cranes will grant you healing.

Evelyn Abel will fold two thousand if it will bring Luc back to her.

Luc Argent has always been intimately acquainted with death. After a car crash got him a second chance at life—via someone else’s transplanted heart—he tried to embrace it. He truly did. But he always knew death could be right around the corner again.

And now it is.

Sick of hospitals and tired of transplants, Luc is ready to let his failing heart give out, ready to give up. A road trip to Oregon—where death with dignity is legal—is his answer. But along for the ride is his best friend, Evelyn.

And she’s not giving up so easily.

A thousand miles, a handful of roadside attractions, and one life-altering kiss later, Evelyn’s fallen, and Luc’s heart is full. But is it enough to save him? Evelyn’s betting her heart, her life, that it can be.

Right down to the thousandth paper crane.

review

I received an advance digital reader’s copy but this does not affect or influence my review.

This book is about two best friends who both know that there is really something more between them but then they don’t know how to acknowledge that feeling until they were separated for three years. When Evelyn came back to the city, she has a lot of questions on why Luc was not so actively reaching out for her when she was away. The two of them has a secret they’ve been carrying by themselves but then they decided to go on this trip that the other one planned by himself and the other one have no idea that there is more to it than just an ordinary road travel, the burden they were carrying is slowly lifted up from eachother. At first, I thought that I knew what was really gonna happen to this plot but then I was totally surprised about a lot of things. I enjoyed their adventures as well, at the same time it keeps me on edge because I always thought to myself that is this it? Is this the end? The characters – especially Evelyn – really has a great development throughout the book. I have to admit there were parts of the book that was a bit slow and a bit dragging, in addition to that there was a choice that the characters made that was just not really realistic or practical for me and it all happened so fast but all in all in the end it really made me cry and I couldn’t help but rate it the way I did. This has one of the best endings I’ve ever read, it gave them justice afterall that they’ve been through.

This book is perfect for the people who enjoyed The Fault in Our Stars, My Heart and Other Black Hole, All the Bright Places, and Me Before You. If that list didn’t tell you anything, then I don’t know what to say (*haha* kidding!)
